About Mesh & Signal

One person, one subject, and an unusually specific set of things we will not claim.

What this site is for

Mesh & Signal exists to answer one question properly: what is actually wrong with your home Wi-Fi, and what should you buy — if anything — to fix it?

That sounds narrow and it is deliberately so. The gap we set out to fill is a real one. Search for a Wi-Fi symptom and you mostly find two kinds of page: articles from internet providers, which describe the problem well and name no products because they sell internet service rather than hardware; and affiliate roundups, which name plenty of products and never engage with whether you have the problem those products solve. Almost nobody connects the diagnosis to the purchase.

So every page here starts from a symptom or a house and works forward to a specific recommendation — including, frequently, the recommendation to spend nothing. Our diagnostic pages list the free fixes before the paid ones, in order, because moving a router out of a cupboard is genuinely the largest improvement available to a lot of households and it costs nothing.

Who writes it

Everything on Mesh & Signal is written by Ryder M., the hands-on owner behind Magoo Media Group. There is no staff, no freelance pool and no editorial committee — which is worth saying plainly because it cuts both ways. It means the site is consistent and that one person is accountable for every claim on it. It also means we cannot do the things a large publication does, and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

Specifically: we do not run a test lab. We have not measured throughput at thirty feet, we have not run a mesh system for ninety days, and we will never tell you we did. What we do instead is read the published specifications carefully, read the measurements taken by outlets that do have labs, cite them by name with a link, explain the mechanism behind each recommendation so you can check the reasoning, and say clearly where the evidence runs out.

That is a real limitation and, we think, a defensible position — set out in full on how we decide what to recommend.

Who publishes it

Mesh & Signal is owned and published by Magoo Media Group. You can find the rest of what they do at magoomediagroup.com. Editorial decisions on this site are made by the author; no manufacturer, retailer or network has any input into what appears here or how it is ranked.

How the site is organized

Six sections, in roughly the order a real decision happens:

What we will not do

This list is the shortest description of our editorial standards, and we would rather be judged against it than against a mission statement.

  • We will not claim to have tested something we have not. No invented throughput figures, no "after ninety days of testing", no fabricated anecdotes about a unit in a spare room.
  • We will not publish a price we cannot verify. Where there is no live price data, the button says "check price" rather than showing a figure that may be months old.
  • We will not invent reviews, ratings or testimonials. You will notice this site has no testimonials section at all. That is why.
  • We will not recommend a product because it pays better. If the cheaper option is right for your situation, that is what the page says.
  • We will not manufacture urgency. No countdowns, no stock warnings, no "today only". We do not control inventory and pretending to would be dishonest.
  • We will not link to a product we would not recommend in order to fill a list to a round number.

How the site makes money

Affiliate commissions. When you buy something through a link here, the retailer pays us a commission and you pay nothing extra. It does not change our rankings and it does not change what we say about a product. The full details, including which programs we participate in, are on the affiliate disclosure page.

Corrections and questions

If something here is wrong, we want to know, and we will correct it and say that we did — the process is on our editorial policy page. And if you want help with your own house, that is genuinely welcome: describe the building, the rooms that are bad and your internet provider, and email contact@meshandsignal.com or use the contact form.
