The disclosure itself

Mesh & Signal is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com.

In plain terms: some of the links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, the retailer pays us a commission. You pay exactly the same price you would have paid otherwise — the commission comes out of the retailer's margin, not out of your pocket.

This is how the site is funded. There are no ads, no sponsored posts, no paid placements and no subscription. The alternative business models all have worse incentives than this one, and this one has an obvious conflict of interest that we would rather name than hide.

What commission does not change

This is the part that matters, so it is specific rather than reassuring:

• It does not change the ranking order. Products are ranked against a visible rubric for the specific use case of the page. Where the cheapest product is the right answer, it is ranked first — and it earns us less.
• It does not change what we say about a product. Every pick on this site carries a "what to watch for" list as well as a "what it gets right" list, including on products we would happily recommend.
• It does not stop us telling you to spend nothing. Our diagnostic pages list free fixes before paid ones, and several pages exist mainly to talk readers out of a purchase. That is bad for short-term revenue and it is the reason the site is worth reading.
• It does not add anything to your price. Affiliate commission is paid by the retailer from their own margin.
• It does not give any retailer editorial input. No manufacturer, retailer or network sees a page before it publishes or has any say in what it says.

Which programs we participate in

Amazon Associates is currently the only program we earn from, and it is the destination for every commercial link on this site. Amazon links here carry our Associates tracking tag.

We also mention manufacturers' own stores — eero, TP-Link, Netgear, ASUS, Ubiquiti — where they are the right place to read official specifications. Those links are not affiliate links and we earn nothing from them. We are not enrolled in any of those programs, and we will update this page if that changes.

We do not participate in any other affiliate network, and we do not carry links for advertisers outside the ones named above.

How to tell which links earn us money

Three ways, all of them visible:

• Every earning link is marked. Commercial links carry a sponsored-link attribute in the page markup, as Google's policies require, and open in a new tab.
• Every buy button carries an "#ad" label and a link back to this page, directly underneath it — not in a footer you have to scroll to find.
• Every commercial page carries a disclosure box above the first buy link, in the body of the page.

Links to other pages on this site, and links to sources and manufacturer documentation, are ordinary links and earn us nothing.

About the prices you see

Prices come from a live data feed or not at all. Where we have no verified current price, the button reads "check price on Amazon" and opens the retailer's own listing, so the number you see is theirs and is current. Where a price does appear on this site it carries the date it was verified, and it disappears automatically once it is more than 48 hours old rather than quietly going stale.

We will never show you a remembered price, an estimated price, or a price presented as current when we cannot confirm that it is. Retail prices change constantly and a stale number is worse than no number.

Product images

The photographs next to our product picks are licensed stock images illustrating the product category, not photographs of the specific unit — we have no entitlement to manufacturer product imagery. Each one carries an "illustrative" label in the interface. More on why, and what we do instead, on our methodology page.
